Welcome to SpendWise ("we", "our", or "us"). SpendWise is a personal budget tracking app designed to help you understand and manage your spending. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
By using SpendWise, you agree to the terms described in this policy.
When you create a SpendWise account, we collect your email address, used to create and authenticate your account via Supabase Authentication — either a one-time email code, or Google Sign-In. If you choose Google Sign-In, we also receive your name from your Google account, which we use only to greet you inside the app. We do not collect your phone number, date of birth, or any other personal identifiers unless you voluntarily provide them.
All expense and budget data you enter is stored locally on your device. This includes:
As a guest (no account), none of this is backed up to our servers — though see Section 4 for the two things that do still leave your device. If you create a SpendWise account and sign in — free or Pro — your expense data is also automatically backed up to our servers, so it survives a logout, reinstall, or new device. See Section 4 for details.
SpendWise can read a bank, card, or UPI-app statement you choose from your device (CSV or Excel) and turn its debit rows into expenses. That file is some of the most sensitive data you own, so:
We store your in-app settings locally, including notification preferences and reminder times, category preferences, and display preferences.
If you buy SpendWise Pro, the purchase is processed by RevenueCat and your device’s app store (Google Play). We receive confirmation of your purchase status but never handle or store your payment card details. You can buy Pro without a SpendWise account — in that case the purchase is tied to an anonymous identifier and your store account rather than to an email address.
We use PostHog, a product analytics provider, to understand how the app is used and to improve it — for example, which screens are visited and whether key actions (like completing onboarding or adding an expense) succeed.
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email address | Account creation, login, and authentication (including via Google Sign-In) |
| Expense & budget data | Core app functionality — budgeting and tracking |
| Imported statement rows | Creating the expenses you confirm — the file itself is never stored or transmitted |
| Purchase status | Unlocking SpendWise Pro features |
| Notification preferences | Sending local reminders you have configured |
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing.
Your expense data, budget limits and preferences are stored locally on your device and are not backed up to our servers. Two things do still leave the device, and it would be wrong to imply otherwise: anonymous usage analytics (Section 2.6, which you can switch off), and — if you buy Pro as a guest — your purchase status, via Google Play and RevenueCat.
Once you create a SpendWise account and sign in, your expense data is automatically transmitted to and stored on secure servers as a backup — this applies to free and Pro accounts alike. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
Your account credentials are managed by Supabase, a GDPR-compliant backend platform. Supabase stores your email and securely hashed credentials.
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account authentication (email sign-in or Google Sign-In) & cloud backup — supabase.com/privacy |
| Google Sign-In | If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account — policies.google.com/privacy |
| RevenueCat | In-app purchase management — revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Google Play | App distribution & purchases — policies.google.com/privacy |
| PostHog | Product usage analytics (see 2.6) — posthog.com/privacy |
None of these ever receives a statement file you import, or the amount of any expense.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, or any advertising SDKs.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+) | Send local daily reminders and budget alerts — opt-in |
| INTERNET | Signing in, cloud backup for any signed-in account, and purchases |
| VIBRATE | The buzz that accompanies a reminder or budget alert |
Those three are the only permissions that affect you or your data, and the only ones you will ever be asked about. Android additionally auto-grants a small number of technical permissions declared by the libraries SpendWise is built on — so that scheduled reminders survive a restart, so the app can tell whether it is online, and so Google Play can process a purchase. None of them give access to your personal data and none of them prompt you.
We never ask for your camera, microphone, contacts, location, or photo library.
Choosing a statement file uses your device’s own file picker, which hands the App that one file and nothing else — no storage permission is requested or held.
SpendWise is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at startspendwise@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will update the date above and, for material changes, notify you via an in-app notice. Continued use of SpendWise after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
